I have also been thinking about this, mainly in the context of
procmail (but I'm calling it greenlisting, which is a common term
on the procmail list). Some of my thoughts about this are here:

And make sure you read the footnotes, e.g. this:

 [3] When thinking about how to implement tools and procedures for
 maintaining greenlists and bluelists, we need to remember that
 most users are not going to have (or want) direct access to their
 server or their procmail recipes. We also cannot assume anything
 about their mail client and we do not want to force them to do
 updates through a web browser (although that could be an option).
 [It sure would be nice to be able to assume clients and servers
 that support IMAP mailboxes, IMAP keywords, IMAP annotations, and
 server-based address books though!]


Also note that I think SPF or other designated-sender systems are
going to be especially useful for greenlisting.
