[herding cats] re: combined proposal

It's called "herding cats."  Extremely difficult if not nearly impossible,
left up to the likes of EDS. [1]

There's also a lot of angry sentiment left over from April's ASRG crowd.
RMX was dismissed as entirely unworkable by many prominent folks, and not
just for technical reasons.  Some of those folks went on to create their own
proposals.  Inviting all of them here, now, well... there's a reason I call
this the "RMX Summit."

There are as many personal reasons as there are technical reasons we're not
agreeing here.  Some of my own work was Microsofted out of my hands, for
instance, and to add insult to injury, said work was set aside as a
"fallback" to an even grander scheme. [2]

Hell, some folks here might even be accused of grabbing glory for
themselves, of "taking very large steps" on other folks' backs.  We don't
want a repeat of Rambus.[3]

So I imagine we each have our personal reasons for continuing our separate
ways.  This summit is only going to work if we find a way to put those
aside, or have them addressed somehow.

[1] Who remembers the EDS "Cat Herder" commercial?  "Bein' a Cat Herder's
prob'ly 'bout the toughest thin' I thin' I ever done."

[2] I might be misinterpreting what I'm seeing but that doesn't change my
sentiment.

[3] Accused of patenting technologies behind the backs of the JEDEC.
