  EAP is the Extensible Authentication Protocol.
  LEAP is Cisco's variant, Lightweight EAP.

  I've implemented both.  Using the same acronym for email systems
would make my head spin.  Some variants which don't appear to be
already taken for computer/network terms:

  Origating SMTP Authentication Protocol (OSAP)
  Lightweight MTA Authentication Protocl (LMAP)
