Alan answered it best:  Nope, otherwise we're back to Square One.

Already, dedicated forwarders rewrite the envelope or encode it somehow so
the original sender's notified of bounces, yet the final destination's
envelope is from the forwarder.  It's just a matter of convincing MTA
authors that doing so by default is a Good Thing.  SRS is a step in that
direction.

Also keep in mind that a lot of ISPs, seeing value in their domain name as a
brand name and wanting to avoid overhead from a lot of old and defunct
accounts, disallow forwarding as a matter of policy.  Stupid policy perhaps,
but it's their domain.

I don't suppose Source Routing, originally a Bad Thing, could be used
somehow without making a system an open relay.  Does this have any value?
