Welcome everyone! This is a mailing list for the SMTP-VERIFY subgroup of
the ASRG / IRTF. The ASRG for those who may be unfamiliar does research
and pre-standards work for the IETF, which in turn uses our work to
improve existing and create new standards for the Internet.

This specific subgroup is tasked with looking at different ways for
verifying and authenticating SMTP Envelope/Session information. Among
the questions we are considering are:
1. Different approaches to verification - DNS-based, ESMTP based, rDNS
based, etc.
2. Differences, pros and cons between different approaches.
3. What effect would SMTP session verification have on spam.
4. Impact on existing systems.
5. Any other ideas of why and why not SMTP session verification is needed.

Our first question of you however, is to comment on the LMAP discussion
draft which discusses issues and compares main proposals for IP/DNS
authentication methods. Due to the constraints of the IETF scheduling,
all comments on this draft must be received by next Sunday, February
15th. The draft is here:

This mailing list is closed for subscribers who need approval of the
ASRG chairs to get in. However, the archives of this mailing list are
publicly available at gmane.org. The ASRG also operates a main
discussion list which is open and unmoderated at <[email protected]>. It is
expected that results of this subgroup will be at some point posted to
the main list for discussions.

Sincerely,
Yakov Shafranovich
ASRG Co-Chair
