It's more like RSS.  But I take your point.

I think there's a difference due to the different update and query
patterns.  Anything that requires a high update rate and global
consistency is really hard and doesn't parallelize well.  That's why
ATM networks and airline reservations still use million dollar
mainframes rather than farms of PCs.
