Hi Sumeshwar (and anybody else with an MSTP mib module),

Please send your draft to [email protected] and [email protected].
Tell them you are submitting the document for consideration by the
IEEE 802.1 WG. (IETF I-D format is good.)

Here's why:

The IESG decided years ago that an IETF WG that creates a protocol
should also produce the mib module to make the protocol manageable.
That is, IETF mib module work should be done by the IETF WG that has
the experts on the content to be managed. MIB Doctors act as advisors
to the WGs and review the final mib module for SMIv2/SNMP correctness.
In the case of MSTP, the WG with content expertise just happens to be
in the IEEE instead of the IETF.

All future mib module work for IEEE 802.1 technologies is being
transitioned to them. We are providing MIB Doctor advice and review
for 802.1 mib module work during the transition.

The IEEE 802.1 WG wants viable drafts before they add the MSTP mib
module as a work item. In IETF terms, it is not yet in their charter;
in IEEE terms, it is not yet part of an approved PAR. But they are
taking submissions.

I believe they will post it for WG consideration at
http://www.ieee802.org/1/files/public/docs2004/.

A number of people have claimed to have an MSTP mib module ready for
submission to the bridgemib, and we have advised them to submit it to
the IEEE, but I haven't seen any actually submitted to the IEEE yet.
The more submissions that are actually received by the IEEE 802.1 WG,
the greater the likelihood they will accept an MSTP mib module as a
work item.

Hope this helps,

David Harrington

Hi David,
I'm planning to submit a draft on the Multiple Spanning Tree MIB. It
would be really great if you could tell me the WG I should submit it
to.

Thanks & regards,
Sumeshwar

Hi,

The bridgemib isn't accepting new work at this time. We are only
focusing on completing the existing drafts, and we may not do that for
all the drafts that exist. New work will likely be done in the IEEE
802.1 WG.

If you tell me what the draft is about, I may be able to advise you to
which WG you should submit it.

Hello,
I want to submit an internet draft to the bridge MIB group. Can anyone
please tell me the procedure to submit an internet draft.

Thanks in anticipation,
Sumeshwar
