Just to clarify my personal position: I am in a release frenzy right now, so I have almost 0 time to read the list. This subject however caught my attention just because I took part in the discussion before. Without checking at the archives, the last time this came up I was left with the impression that the best way forward would be to remove stored queries from this draft and prepare a followup draft that addressed the exact same points that you are bringing up. In particular, I definitely agree that if stored queries can only represent shortcuts for queries we can specify in CAP they're not much use, as Doug's trivial examples perfectly showed. So bottomline is: don't keep them on the account of me wanting them in, at this point I'm absolutely against them (as currently specified).
