Registrars are agents who maintain database records in a registry on behalf of registrants. They have no direct relationship to the DNS. Name service providers publish zones on behalf of zone managers. The 2013 ICANN Registrar Accreditation Agreement mandates DNSSEC and IPv6 support for registries that support them, and for registrants that request them. Again, this is a database issue. The existence of novel RRTypes has no relevance here, until the time where we see RRTypes other than A, AAAA, NS and DS provisioned for registrants in the zones registries publish. Note that the context here is gTLDs; ccTLDs make their own arrangements with registrars. > People keep saying leave it to market forces. DNS providers are not regulated in the sense that gTLD registrars are. If you're suggesting that they should be regulated, then I doubt this is an appropriate venue for that discussion.
