i don't recall saying anything about reading, so why are you introducing 
it  to the discussion.?

The distinction about different types of delivery has to do with the degree 
of responsibility to which one can hold the recipient.

There is presumed to be considerably more responsibility when it is 
"handed" to them, than when the message is deposited in some distant box, 
waiting for the recipient to retrieve it at some unknown point in the future.
