The concern you are expressing is not specific to this case.  It covers all
cases of sending a MIME type (or a "profile" within a type) that the
receiver does not support.

For MIME, the requirement on basic interoperability is achieved by requiring
that both writers and readers support a very small, core set of MIME types.
All others are option -- that is, MAY.

For the iFax effort, RFC 2301 provides the basic interoperability.  After
that, all features are optional.

So it is not at all clear to me what benefit there is in discouraging use of
part of a new MIME type.
