doing nothing is almost always fine with me.  i think we should be  
getting this out and then seeing real world deployment experience  
before doing large change.  as you say, this is not a current issue.   
and i think a lot of the solutions offered might require a version  
change because of essential incompatibility with the versions of the  
protocol that have already been implemented.  and i would prefer to  
avoid that sort of change.  i thought the solution you and Joel  
offered was the only possibility, other then doing nothing, that did  
not require an uprev of version in the main header due to  
incompatible change.  adding a flag is one thing while changing the  
semantics is quite another.

but, we are only 4 of many, it is fine with the powers that be; i.e.  
the working group as seen by our chairs, and the every watchful ADs?
