An example:
1. A new message is deposited in the mailbox.
2. With some notification mechanism (e.g. SNAP), a notification is sent to
the notification agent in the client (this can be
a wireless phone, a PDA etc.) If using SNAP, the UID of the new message
is contained in the notification packet.
3. The E-mail client at the PDA can now LOGIN, SELECT INBOX and do a UID
CHANNEL to get (for example) a
streaming URL - and then by using it, downstream the message (or parts
of it).
Note that 3 may occur some time after 2 (not necessarily immediately after).
So the sequence number of the message at the time the notification was sent,
may be different at the time in which 3 is issued.

Ari Erev

When would a client issue a CHANNEL request when it did not know the
sequence number of the message in question?
