That's a really good solution. Very much better than e.g. unextended IMAP, 
and even better than base IMAP + Cyrus' proposal, except for one thing: It 
seems to me to have a baseline-like character rather than an extension-like 
character. I don't see that sensible clients would support stock IMAP and 
use your (otherwise fine) extension if present.

If the goal is to produce something that mobile clients can require and 
use, while dropping support for unextended IMAP, then I'm all for your 
proposal.
