I agree that the way the 'operations' in the core CPIM spec are currently
specified, it isn't clear if they are intended to suggest specific
requirements for elements that must be present in using protocols (your
protocol MUST implement a transaction identifier that is a unique token used
to match requests to responses), or merely to communicate more general
requirements (your protocol MUST have some way of assuring ordered delivery
of messages). This distinction has some impact on the design of the
protocols themselves as well as the implementation of CPIM gateways.
