I am deeply conflicted about the MsgFmt issue. On one hand, if the use of XML for instant message headers is too verbose, than why is it not too verbose for presence information? Given that many IMPP-compliant software components will want to process presence information in its native format, these components will have an XML parser. Why require yet another parser? On the other hand, I have yet to read about an issue that was not raised a year or so ago. After much debate, we decided not to use XML for instant messages. I see no reason to reopen the debate unless something has changed. Has anyone found it difficult to implement a MsgFmt parser? I confess I have not tried.
