Agree that the most important component is ensuring the resource is accessible with the same credentials or with no credentials.

Adopting the W3C's notion of "Same Origin" might make sense, although I can also see sharing common resources (standard ICC color profiles, strings files, etc.) from a CDN.  But those should either be accessible with the same credentials or with no credentials (publicly accessible).
