Abstract:

The fact that internet infrastructure is=20
independent of source IP addresses gives the=20
attacker a strong desire to attack targets by=20
changing his IP addresses. Since none of the=20
intermediate routers check the packets=20
identity the victim has no way to know who=20
attacked him. There have been a lot of models=20
proposed to track the source of an IP packet=20
but till date no effective model has=20
approached which will solve the problem. In=20
this paper I propose a passive monitoring=20
system at the ISP's end to detect spoofed IP=20
packets and enable communication among=20
involved ISP's to trace back the source of the=20
spoofed IP packets. This model has the=20
advantage that it does not possess any=20
additional overhead on the routers and at the=20
same time takes into account every single=20
packet leaving the network.
