Forward/Backward Link (again)

I have a question about iTrace(ICMP traceback). When I focused on the 
following R2 router, forward
  link will be a (R2,R3) pair and also back link will be  will be a (R1,R2) pair.

A -> R1 -> R2 -> R3 -> V

A: Attacker, Rx: Router, V: Victim

What forward/back link pair does the R1 or R3 router make?
