I've been asking myself that same question ever since L2TPv3 evolved from
the simple quick update to L2TPv2 that I was told it was going to be to
the monster that it has become.

In hallway conversations, I've started using the term "LxTP" to distinguish
the two -- a term that I'll readily agree is not as sexy as "L2TP" but it
seems to better reflect the extended capabilities of the new protocol
defined in RFC3931.
