Language for taxonomic names, redux

Some 14 years(!) ago, I raised the issue of a language code for marking up the taxonomic names of living things: http://www.alvestrand.no/pipermail/ietf-languages/2003-February/000574.html But that came to nothing. I blogged about the same issue, in 2008: http://pigsonthewing.org.uk/marking-up-the-scientific-names-of-living-things/ when Gregor Hagedorn made a similar proposal: http://mailman.nhm.ku.edu/pipermail/taxacom/2008-June/027271.html The issue of how to indicate the language of these names, which are not in Latin, English, or any other regular spoken language, still vexes web editors and others.
