It was an attempt to consider the fact that these names are not pronounced in a uniform fashion. 

Of course in English the prefix “quasi-“ can be pronounced [ˈkweɪzʌɪ], [ˈkweɪsʌɪ], [ˈkwɑːzi]…

Sigh.
