I'd also prefer -taxon over -linnaeus or -linne. And isn't Linnaeus a misspelling itself, of Linnæus? I'd prefer "-taxon" over "-linnaeus". I'd think it is quite clear that the only appropriate prefix is "la", no matter where the actual word names are borrowed from (if any...), no matter how naturalised a small number of these names have become in English, Swedish, French, whatever. /Kent K Den 2017-03-01 19:44, skrev "Peter Constable" <[email protected]>: > I doubt that anybody that would plan to use this subtag whatever it is > will have difficulty figuring out how to spell it. > > > Peter > > -----Original Message----- > From: Ietf-languages [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf > Of Michael Everson > Sent: Wednesday, March 1, 2017 3:55 AM > To: Kent Karlsson <[email protected]> > Cc: ietflang IETF Languages Discussion <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: Language for taxonomic names, redux > > >> On 1 Mar 2017, at 10:27, Kent Karlsson <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> >> As I mentioned in passing before, '-linne' is easier to spell than >> '-linnaeus' (did I get that right... ;-). > > But 1) no one but Swedes will know Linné and 2) Linne is a misspelling for > Linné.
