Description:
Lo Congrès permanent de la lenga occitana is an organization tasked to regulate the occitan language (“Academy”). The members include the historical institutions and organizations of the occitan-speaking regions. It is approved by the French government (French ministry of Culture) and the local authorities (Regions and Départements). Its mission is to contribute to the vitality and the development of occitan language -- also known as “langue d’oc” -- ensuring knowledge and codification through production of resources and tools for the fields of lexicography, terminology, neology, phonology, written form, grammar and toponymy.
The Congrès has a scientific Council composed of about forty researchers and specialists of occitan linguistics.
The Congrès hosts and maintains a web-based lexical portal (dictionaries, lexicons, grammar, etc.) which is already a reference (280 000 visitors/year) : http://.www.locongres.org
The Congrès drawed up the 2015-2019 roadmap for the digital development of the occitan language (http://www.locongres.org/images/docs/huelha_rota_numeric_occitan_oc.pdf). This document plans the TAL development for occitan.
In order to progress on our work and cover the diversity of the data we manage, we need new subtags, which we request IANA to register. You will find their description below, knowing that:
1. Occitan is a pluridialectal language, which has 8 major dialects : auvergnat, languedocien, limousin, gascon, provençal, vivaroalpin, etc.
2. Occitan has many spellings : classical (the one currently used in schools), "mistralienne", "febusienne", "other".
