I believe the server should return a referral, likely using the replica
subentries to locate a server that contains an updateable replica. RFC
2251 (LDAP V3) makes reference to this kind of behavior in section 3.2.
This is common practice among the servers I am aware of that provide single
master replication capability.

When a client sends a update request to a LDAP server holding read-only
replica, how is a LDAP server supposed to behave?
Is this something that the current ldup-model draft should specify? Or is
there any other draft specifying such behaviour?
