DR election on point to point

RFC 4601 says that we need to perform DR election on all interfaces. (This includes point-to-point interfaces as well).  Also as per RFC, DR is needed on shared media like ethernet.  So there is confusion whether we need DR election on serial interface or not ? 
As many macro definition depends on I_am_DR(I) macro I feel that DR election on point-to-point interface is needed.

Any comments ?
