Thank you, Stu - problem 3 is consistent with the way MANETs work today, but it discusses the basis from which IP addresses and router ID's come from. With current MANETs either someone has to administratively assign the addresses/IDs or they get assigned randomly - either way may not be compatible with true global mobility. So, solving problems 1 and 2 is necessary to informing universal solutions to problem 3. There is something else about problem 3 - if MANET-local communications are also conducted in the overlay, then effective header compression can be applied to reduce data plane overhead. The draft doesn't currently say this, but it needs to be pointed out that sometimes overlay encapsulation can actually reduce overhead in the data plane.
