all NAT boxes break some applications.  if it happens that you are
using a NAT box with a set of hosts that are running only a set of 
specific applications that are known to work with that NAT box,
fine.  but NAT boxes are sold as general-purpose internet connection
sharing devices and security enhancers and they are neither of these.

I've spent a great deal of time trying to get distributed apps to work 
over NAT boxes - basically it is often infeasible to do so.
