pim, I’m a co-author of this document and support the WGLC. This is the third document, in a series of four, that provide support for host-based (peer-to-peer) protocols for dynamically allocating multicast addresses. The first document, draft-ietf-pim-zeroconf-mcast-addr-alloc-ps<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-pim-zeroconf-mcast-addr-alloc-ps/>, is an informational document that lays out the problem and defines requirements for the solution. The second document, draft-ietf-pim-updt-ipv6-dyn-mcast-addr-grp-id<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-pim-updt-ipv6-dyn-mcast-addr-grp-id/>, makes improvements to the allocation of multicast group IDs originally defined in RFC 3307. It also requests that IANA create a new registry for dynamic multicast group IDs. This document, draft-ietf-pim-ipv6-zeroconf-assignment<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-pim-ipv6-zeroconf-assignment/>, is the first of two protocols we are specifying for host-based dynamic multicast address allocation. This protocol is specifically for IPv6 address allocation and uses mDNS to coordinate addresses allocated by different hosts, or even different applications on the same host. It satisfies all of the requirements specified in our first document. Thanks for your consideration!
