Internet-Draft draft-ietf-pim-ipv6-zeroconf-assignment-08.txt is now
available. It is a work item of the Protocols for IP Multicast (PIM) WG of the
IETF.
Title: Zero-Configuration Assignment of IPv6 Multicast Addresses
Authors: Nate Karstens

Name: draft-ietf-pim-ipv6-zeroconf-assignment-08.txt
Pages: 10
Dates: 2026-03-30
Abstract:
Describes a zero-configuration protocol for dynamically assigning
IPv6 multicast addresses. Applications randomly assign multicast
group IDs from a specified range and prevent collisions by using
Multicast DNS (mDNS) to publish records under a new "eth-addr.arpa"
domain. This protocol satisfies all of the criteria listed in draft-
ietf-pim-zeroconf-mcast-addr-alloc-ps.
