This is the way I look at it:
A VPLS instance corresponds to an end-to-end service instance that can 
spans across different access networks (e.g., one side to be QinQ and the 
other side to be MPLS).

An emulated LAN correspond to a set of PWs and their associated forwarding 
functions.

An emulated LAN looks like an emulated VLAN with respect to the bridge module.

Yes, in that model there is a one to one correspondence between logical 
bridge and forwarder and sometimes the combination of the two is referred 
to as VSI.
