As you must be aware it is not always a question of hardware capabilities.

Very often vendors make a business decision if enhancing existing and
deployed platforms makes sense in terms of revenue as well as new cost of
features development for older gear.

To boost revenue vendors live by selling hardware and now also services,
Revenue from software new features has always been marginal if at all
present. I have never seen an action "Oh there is a new RFC published -
let's implement it on all still alive platforms".
