Questions about PW Status bits in RFC 6073

Hi all,
I have a couple of questions about Section 10.1 of RFC 6073, and I would appreciate a timely response from the authors and/or the WG.

The context for my questions is signaled PW segments that run in tunnel LSPs that have been set up using such protocols as LDP, RSVP-TE or SR.


  1.  The text in the RFC discusses local PSN-facing Receive and Transmit faults for each of the PW segments. Detecting a local PSN-facing Transmit fault in the context I have in mind is simple, but how can the S-PE detect a local PSN-facing Receive fault?
  2.  The text in Section 10.1.2 discusses handling of local PSN-facing Transmit fault and suggests sending different PW status bits to the two peers:
     *   A local PSN-facing Transmit fault is sent to the peer for which the fault is detected. This is obvious, and the corresponding 32-bit status is stored by the S-PE
     *   A local PSN-facing Receive fault is sent to the "other" peer but not stored by the S-PE. Can somebody please clarify why this is needed, and why the corresponding status is not stored?
