Hi Joe,

Thanks for starting this discussion!

I don’t think we want any device to be able to say no to recording. Recording with a portable device for personal use is typically legal and can be very important for filming both government abuse as well as criminal activity. I do not think letting criminals or corrupt officers say no to recording makes sense.

I think a major problem with devices like this is that the data is automatically shared with data hoarding private companies

Here are two recent posts I made related to “smart glasses"

You don't often get email from [email protected]. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
To whom it may concern: (Russ Housley pointed me to this email)

I’m thinking about the growing problem of “smart glasses” and their stealth recording. What if there was a standard Bluetooth protocol whereby glasses would be required to “handshake” with all other Bluetooth devices in range (smartphones, laptops, lapel pins, other glasses, etc.) and ask for permission to record (something like robots.txt for web pages). If ANY devices in range say “no” then recording is blocked. Does that make sense?

Just an idea. And probably one that someone else has already had. But I toss it out just in case.

ps – I’d love if this also worked for Amazon Alexa type “smart” devices to indicate whether or not they should be “listening”.

Make it a great day!
