I'm glad that hasn't been true of e.g. slowish ECC based PRNGs;-)

Not quite joking - I'm puzzled how so many of us seem so happy to
depend on the organisation that did that (even if another part of
that same government pulled the wool over NIST's eyes).

I'm not arguing we should never take on something NIST like, but
I do think the pendulum of their current influence on algs has
swung too far into the positive right now. Nothing against the
people involved, but that's a bad sign if it means people are
already forgetting history from just this century.
