Do we really have to argue over that to agree on my original point that the
original motivation for layering every application protocol over HTTP
(because it is the only thing allowed through the firewalls) has been
rendered obsolete because QUIC with cheap TLS certs achieves the same goal?

The reason every Web site has been forced to use TLS is that Chrome makes
it very difficult to visit a site that doesn't have a valid cert. The
origins of LetsEncrypt are besides the point, it was Google stuck a gun to
everyone's head and forced them to use 'em.
