To keep messages sent to the same subsystem number from being looped back.

Also so that SG knows what point code to put in the OPC field of
outgoing SCCP messages (because your SCCP-User does not know its own
point code and will obviously therefore not include it in the source
address parameter in messages sent to the SG.)

Also, so that the SG can perform proper SCCP management (management of the
SCCP-SAPs, which contain MTP-SAPs, which contain point codes).

Managing and provisioning Global Titles and translation types is more
problematic than Point Codes.
