Yes. That makes sense to create two registrations. I would recommend that for the zip registration, the file extensions be limited to .zip and for the gzip registration it should be limited to .gz. Including the .tar and .tgz is confusing and inconsistent with the registration. Is it OK if they use all of the same information in each registration form, aside from the subtype name? These are the updated submissions, which I think are otherwise essentially unchanged: === Type Name: application Subtype Name: vec-package+gzip Required Parameters: N/A Optional Parameters: N/A Encoding Considerations: binary Security Considerations: The packages contain application/vec media type files. Packages can be compressed using ZIP or GZIP. Security considerations that apply to application/xml ([rfc7303], section 10 or its successors), application/zip and application/gzip ([rfc6713], section 4 or its successors) also apply to this media type. Interoperability Considerations: N/A Published specification: The specification is published as PSI 21 - Vehicle Electric Container (VEC). The most recent specification is available from the prostep ivip Media Library https://www.prostep.org/en/medialibrary/publications free of charge. XML Schema Definitions are available from https://ecad-wiki.prostep.org/specifications/vec/ . Application Usage: The VEC format is used in applications which are involved in the creation, processing, storage and exchange of vehicle electric system design information throughout the whole process chain. The VEC data format specification supports a great variety of applications like - E/E architecture design - Component development - Electrological design - Harness Design - Wire Routing - Formboard - Harness manufacturing This media type defines a package containing several application/vec and other referenced files. Fragment Identifier Considerations: N/A Restrictions on Usage: N/A Provisional Registration: No Additional information: 1. Deprecated alias names for this type: N/A 2. Magic number(s): N/A 3. File extension(s): .vecpkg.zip, .vecpkg.tar, .vecpkg.tgz 4. Macintosh file type code: N/A 5. Object Identifiers: N/A Intended Usage: COMMON Other Information & Comments: prostep ivip is an international non for-profit association with members mainly from automotive and aerospace industry. prostep ivip is engaged in standardization as well and would like to register some of its format specification as media types.
