Dear Authors,

Before the IETF meeting, we check working group agendas for documents with IANA-related issues. We have notes about this document:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ietf-mediaman-6838bis-07

Section 5.3:

About this text:

“When a suffix is present in a registration, IANA will inform the Designated Expert(s) of any potentially clashing registrations (see Section 4.2)”

What does “clash” mean in this context? Section 4.2 describes several possible issues. Does this just mean checking whether a suffix has been registered? If so, can you confirm that you don’t want us to ask the requester whether they want to withdraw the request or change the name, but instead let the know that it’s an issue and send the request to the experts as-is, with a note about the suffix? Is there anything else we should be checking concerning suffixes?

Section 5.5:

About this text:

“Changes may be requested by the change controller, or by other parties if the Designated Expert(s) verify that the change controller approves the change.”

I think this version pre-dates the relevant IANABIS thread, but this should say “if IANA or the Designated Expert(s) verify [...].” IANA generally handles requests to update contact/change controller information for various registries without requesting expert input, and has processes for doing so, but does sometimes ask experts to assist.

If you have any questions, just let us know. If you'd like to talk in person, you can find us next to the RFC Editor's table from Monday through Thursday. You can also request another review at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

Best regards,

Amanda Baber
