Hi!

Here’s some background concerning provisional registrations that don’t appear to be associated with an IESG-approved organization, as discussed at MEDIAMAN.

These organizations actually were approved by the IESG, but haven’t submitted a request for permanent registration yet:

Consumer Trust Association (CTA) – approved by IESG 2025-08-21

ECMA – approved by IESG 2020-07-16

Eclipse Foundation AISBL – approved by IESG 2025-07-10

Trust Over IP Foundation – approved by IESG 2024-02-15

Unidata – approved by IESG 2021-12-16

These are effectively ready to be added to https://www.iana.org/assignments/iesg-recognized-organizations, but have been held back on the grounds that the name of the registry seems to require that we wait to add the org until they have a permanent registration. (Or have we been reading it wrong?)

Then we have two essentially individual registrations:

application/won  IETF/W3C/other [Roy T. Fielding]

text/nfo  Seantek  [Sean Leonard]

Roy’s provisional registration was added in August 2015, and Sean’s was added in October, both with AD approval. Ned Freed recommended approving Roy’s on the grounds that he assumed it would land with an organization soon. As for the latter: the ISE had recommended that Sean go ahead and request IESG approval for permanent registration for draft-seantek-text-nfo (as required; however, in the future, that request would wait until the conflict review period, which this hadn’t reached). The AD determined that provisional registration should be used instead until the document progressed, which it didn’t. This registry/set of processes was only about three years old at the time.

Let me know if I missed any, or if you’d like more info.

Thanks,

Amanda
