I don't think the "dict:" URL scheme in draft-rfced-info-faith-02.txt is consistent in syntax with other URL schemes. Why is ";" used instead of ":" between <user> and <auth>? Why is the "/d" or "/m" after the port rather than, say, at the end? Shouldn't the <database> appear before <word>, to allow for hierarchical definitions? dict://<user>:<auth>@host:/port/<database>/<word>[:strat]/d ? The URL scheme doesn't mention the fact that <word> will need to be encoded if it contains any characters, e.g., for non-ASCII dictionary entries. I think this is a good example of why we need a "checklist" for new URL schemes. If the author is impatient, ask the author to movethe URL scheme description to a separate Internet Draft so that we can review it along with the URL registration process.
