External complaints about the deprecated Lines: header

Hi,

Ray, the administrator of news.eternal-september.org, is currently having=
 issues
with his users; they complain about the fact that a news server is no lon=
ger
required to generate a Lines: header.

Lots of news readers suddenly break...
Especially when they do not use the overview data for the :lines count bu=
t
only rely on the Lines: header.
