As another query rate data point, the VeriSign-GRS whois servers (which
provide domain name and associated data lookup services) handle
approximately 30 million queries per day.  Doing the math yields these
approximate query rates per hour, minute, and second averaged over a 24-hour
period:

1,250,000 queries/hour
20,833 queries/minute
347 queries/second

I don't have data handy describing peak loads.
