I'm allergic to diagrams.   It's easy to get them wrong, and if they 
differ, or can be interpreted to differ from the text, which is 
authoritative?   How do we make sure that the implementor notices that 
they conflict, given that we didn't?   So I think it's a good idea in 
theory, and a bad idea in practice.
