I would agree to that. I'm fine with a default of 3, as long as the
number of probes can be adjusted where another value makes more sense
for a particular environment.

I doubt a separate document for each possible environment is feasible.
Just make NUM_PROBES a configurable system parameter, recommend a
default of 3, and leave it at that.
