If it uses POCSAG (now very old) it doesn't because pages are batched
and the order they are transmitted puts them into time slots. And
individual pager only listens during its slot, if you don't do this it
makes the battery life awful.

There was a later european pager standard that may not have done it
the same way, but it came about when cellular stuff was on its
exponential increase and hence may not have been widely deployed.
