Bad-CD update Sep-2004

A few things to report:

- "High" by The Blue Nile has been recently released corrupted
  (30-Aug-2004), and with no warnings *at all*.  Sanctury Records,
  however, appear to be siding with the customer on this one according
  to one report, and they suggest getting a refund.  They appear to be
  suggesting that it was a bad decision at management level, and they
  say that they will push for a repress.  The corruption is quite
  severe, crashing WinXP fairly reliably, and causing much difficulty
  elsewhere also.  A tested car CD player also fails to play the disc.

- One sound-quality enthusiast has been using EAC (exactaudiocopy.de)
  to reconstruct the audio from his corrupt discs.  He found that
  "Afterglow" by Sarah McLachlan gave a quality level of only 86% in
  EAC, which is exceptionally poor.  After 4 hours of work by EAC, he
  found that a newly burned disc of this audio sounded significantly
  better on his hi-fi system than the original purchased disc.  This
  isn't the only person who has been finding noticeable differences
  between corrupt versions and uncorrupted versions, for example
  people who have compared uncorrupted preview releases from magazine
  cover discs to the final album releases corrupted with Cactus Data
  Shield.

- I have updated the bad-CD web page to include artist and title
  indexes.  Everything looks much the same, but there is quite a lot
  different under the surface to support generating the indexes:
