To dream up and spread such a lie, you have to come from a certain mind-set, though! I've searched around briefly and only the BBC has a report on a general abandonment of copy-control by Sony (other articles repeat the initial Japan announcement). However, the BBC seems to be referring to something a Sony spokesperson said, so maybe they have a direct source. So, complaints to the BBC on this one. I've checked around local retailers (Virgin, HMV, MVC), and they all have the version that says "Copy protected and pre-ripped for PC" sideways in the margin on the front of the disc. On the back is a warning which includes a link to a Sony site: http://www.copycontrolhelp.com/ (The FAQ is quite entertaining, especially the way it alternates the term 'OpenMG' with all the things that it won't let you do; perhaps 'ClosedMG' would be a better term?) I've left feedback on the BBC site (link top-right): http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3712662.stm Maybe it would be beneficial if a few others do as well, on the basis that like the ASA they might judge how 'hot' the issue is by the number of complaints. So, if you wish, leave the BBC some feedback. The disc is "Astronaut" by Duran Duran, released 11-Oct, in both normal and limited editions, as sold by UK high street shops. It has caused severe playback problems for some people, for example: Another person reports that it "skips like hell" in a Denon DCD1520, refuses to play in an Alpine car CD player, and refuses to play without skipping on two tested PCs.
