This also made the headlines on BBC News 24 this morning:

"Album sales reched record (sic) levels in 2003."

The recording industry will no doubt concentrate ont he fact that single 
sales have continued to fall, ignoring the fact that they never made that 
much money out of singles and regarded them mostly as advertising for the 
album sales where they made money (the cost distribution of a single is 
substantially the same as the cost of distribution for an album so the 
difference in price that people expect comes out of what the record company 
gets mostly).
