So if your computer is stable and power off correctly it is normal. 

S1 -> sleep works only on some.
S3 -> suspend to ram, Just begin to work in kernel 2.6.x 
S4 -> suspend to disk http://swsusp.sourceforge.net/ for kernel 2.4.x
